Ondrej Nepela Arena
Bratislava, Slovakia
Formerly: ST Aréna, T-Com Aréna, Samsung Aréna, Orange Arena, Slovnaft Arena
The Ondrej Nepela Arena is a modern structure that has replaced a much older foundation. The original ice rink opened here in 1940, making it the first of its kind in the city, though the current building is the result of a near-total rebuild.
The reconstruction was not merely cosmetic; it expanded the capacity from roughly 8,350 to over 10,000 seats, turning a local venue into a host for international events. The club HC Slovan Bratislava returned to these stands that year after spending two seasons at the Vladimír Dzurilla Ice Stadium.
The arena has hosted the IIHF World Championship in 1959, 1992, 1995, 2011, and 2019. It also staged the 2022 Winter Olympics qualification matches. Beyond ice hockey, the floor has seen the 1981 FIBA European Championship and the 2022 European Men's Handball Championship. Concert crowds have filled the space for performances by Depeche Mode, Rammstein, and Beyoncé.
The venue remains under the management of the city organization STaRZ.
