Sporthalle Kirchmatte

The Sporthalle Kirchmatte sits quietly at Obere Kirchmatte 7 in Nottwil, a hall that replaced a 1969 gymnasium when it was handed over in 2007. It is not a grand arena, but a functional space where the rhythm of the Swiss Handball League plays out when necessary. The Spono Eagles, a team with six Swiss titles, sometimes roll the dice here, using the venue when their primary home, the SPZ-Halle, is unavailable or under renovation.

Inside, the surface is an indoor hard court, the specific material unclear. The Eagles have argued in this space against European opponents, such as C.S. Oltchim Valcea in 2005, stretching the back line against teams from further afield.

Beyond the league matches, the hall serves the local community. The local club TV Spono Nottwil uses the facility for youth and junior activities, keeping the young players engaged. There is a 'Chindaktiv' children's activity center within, adding a layer of daily life to the sporting events. The name has remained consistent since 2007, referring to the Kirchmatte district, though the architect who designed it remains unnamed in records. It is a place where the draw brought together local ambition and international competition.
