Sporthalle Oberstufenzentrum Köniz

The Sporthalle Oberstufenzentrum Köniz is part of the Oberstufenzentrum Köniz school complex, which opened in 1972. The hall itself is a product of that era, though it received a significant renovation in the 2022/2023 season according to the Gemeinde Köniz. The address is Schwarzenburgstrasse 321, a location that serves as the base for several local sporting activities.

What distinguishes this venue is its dual nature. It is primarily a school facility, yet it has hosted competitive matches. For instance, Volley Köniz has used the space for youth and U20 teams. A notable event was a CEV Cup match held here during the 2006/07 season. The hall is homologated for volleyball competitions, as listed in the Hallenverzeichnis Saison 2015-2016, but it also accommodates handball and floorball. FC Köniz utilises the space for training, keeping it active beyond the school bell.

The structure includes a tribune that requires annual inspection, a practical detail that speaks to its ongoing maintenance rather than grandeur. There is no publicised seating capacity figure available in the sources, and the exact playing surface—whether wooden or synthetic—remains unclear. This lack of specific data does not detract from its role; it simply means the hall exists for the activity, not the spectacle. It is a place where the academy graduates mark their first starts and the local community gathers for sport. The official website for the complex is https://www.ozk.ch/, but the hall stands on its own merits as a multi-purpose indoor arena. It is not the main stadium for FC Köniz, but it is a vital part of the town’s sporting infrastructure. The hall has seen decades of use, from its opening in 1972 to the recent renovation. It is a sturdy, reliable venue that has hosted everything from local matches to international cup ties. The atmosphere is defined by the sound of the game, not by roaring crowds. It is a quiet corner of Köniz that has played its part in the development of local talent.
