Bregenzerwald secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Rizerze in the Oberliga South on Thursday evening. The result keeps the hosts in second place while Rizerze remain rooted to 11th in the standings. Both sides had played six matches before kickoff, with each side carrying zero points in the official table.
The home side had been in mixed form recently, winning against Heilbronner Falken 7-3 and Stuttgart 4-3, but also suffering heavy defeats to Füssen 5-4 and Lindau 6-2. Rizerze's run had been far less kind, with losses to Erding 8-5, Tölzer Löwen 5-2, and Heilbronner Falken 3-1. Their only positive result came against Füssen earlier in September.
By then, both teams knew what was at stake. Bregenzerwald's second-place position offered a buffer, but Rizerze were desperate to climb away from the bottom. The match delivered on that tension, with the final score reflecting a game that could have gone either way.
The victory extends Bregenzerwald's winning mentality, even if their recent results have been volatile. Four wins from six games put them in a strong position, despite the two defeats that have punctuated their campaign. Rizerze, meanwhile, continue to struggle, with just two victories all season.
What the result means on the table is straightforward. Bregenzerwald hold second place with four wins and two losses. Rizerze sit 11th with two wins and four defeats. The gap between them remains significant, and this match did little to close it.
