Copenhagen made short work of Debrecen in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, winning 5:1 at home on Wednesday. The Danish side had already beaten the Hungarian visitors 3:0 just six days earlier, and this time they closed the game out with ease. Elyounoussi opened the scoring inside three minutes and added a penalty after the interval, while Cornelius finished with two goals to round off a dominant display.
By then the match was already settled on its terms. Copenhagen pressed high from the start and Debrecen struggled to build anything meaningful. The visitors did manage a response through Dzsudzsak just after half-time, but the goal lasted longer than their confidence. The home side went back to work immediately and the gap widened again.
What stood out was the difference in quality of chances. Copenhagen created eight big chances compared to none for Debrecen, and their expected goals figure of 4.84 told its own story. The visitors managed only two shots on target from twenty attempts, while Copenhagen hit eleven on target from thirty shots. To be fair, Debrecen had more attacks overall, but they never found the right vein.
Kral and Cornelius added further certainty in the second half, with Cornelius completing his brace in stoppage time. Debrecen picked up two bookings in quick succession through Myrtaj and Kaye before things drifted away completely. The home side's goalkeeper made just one save while the away keeper was called into action six times. Not a fair contest by any measure.
Copenhagen now move into the next round with momentum behind them. They had won four straight before this, and the pattern against Debrecen suggests they are finding their rhythm at the right time. The Hungarian side, meanwhile, have now lost both meetings and will need to regroup quickly if they have any chance of overturning the aggregate score.
