Waduz and Inter Turku played out a 2-2 draw in the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round on Wednesday evening. The match at Rheinpark Stadion ended level after both sides traded blows throughout the ninety minutes. It was a result that extended Vaduz's recent struggles while giving Inter Turku some respite from their own form concerns.
The opening exchanges saw Waduz take an early lead through D. Simani in the fourth minute. Inter Turku responded quickly, and J. Tuominen levelled the score twelve minutes later. The visitors came into this fixture having beaten Waduz 2-1 just seven days prior, and they carried that momentum into the first half.
By then, the match had settled into a rhythm where each side wanted to assert control. L. Dalipi restored Waduz's advantage in the fifty-sixth minute, and you could sense the home crowd stirring. Denis Simani picked up a yellow card two minutes later, which showed the tensions running high in that period.
Inter Turku refused to let the advantage slip. A. Conteh found the net in the seventy-sixth minute to bring his side back into contention. The goal came after some nervous moments for the visitors, who had been under pressure following the break.
There were plenty of changes as both managers looked to see out the match. Inter Turku brought on L. Essomba and J. Tuominen in the sixty-third minute, while Waduz introduced J. Cabrera and M. Sawadogo eighty minutes in. Liridon Berisha went off the field with a yellow card in the seventieth minute.
The statistics told a story of Waduz's dominance in possession. They held 57 per cent of the ball and registered 128 attacks compared to 96 for the visitors. However, Inter Turku were more efficient, landing nine shots on target to Waduz's eight. Both sides recorded three shots off target, and neither team earned a corner advantage worth noting.
The draw means both teams move forward in the qualifying process with something to build on. Waduz, who have lost four of their last five matches, will take heart from the late equalizer. Inter Turku, who drew 0-0 with Lahti on their previous outing, showed they can grind out results away from home.
