Leipzig beat Neuwied 6:1 in the Oberliga North on Friday evening, 9 October 2026. Both sides came into the fixture with six games played and zero points on the board, so the result shifts the balance on the table. We had called for a Leipzig win at 58 per cent confidence, and the home side made it happen.
The visitors had looked competitive in their last outing, beating Rostock 4:3, but Leipzig's attack proved too much. Neuwied's recent form had been mixed—three wins and three losses—but against a side that had just lost 6:5 to Tilburg Trappers, they could not hold out.
By then, Leipzig were feeling their way into this season. They had won five of their last eight games across all competitions, including a 5:4 victory over Foxes Duisburg and a 2:3 defeat to Hannover. The pattern was familiar: they could score, but consistency remained touch and go.
Neuwied's record showed the same unevenness. They had beaten Hammer Eisbären 3:0 and Erfurt 5:4, but also lost heavily to Tilburg Trappers 8:2 and Halle 5:4. The difference against Leipzig was that the home side finally found the rhythm they had been searching for.
And here's the thing about this result: Leipzig now sit level on points with the teams above them, even if they remain tenth. Neuwied stay sixth but have lost ground in what was supposed to be their push for stability.
The scoreline tells you everything you need to know. Leipzig scored six times and conceded once. Neuwied managed a consolation but could not find the response that would have kept the game alive. The gap between the sides was clear by the final whistle.
