bolzano took all three points against Milan in the ice hockey league on sunday, winning 4-3 in a match that reflected both sides' recent fortunes. the visitors had already proven they could compete at this level, but this result put them further clear at the top of the table.
to be fair, milan's form before this game was anything but steady. they had lost four of their last five matches, including heavy defeats against tvk insbruck and villach, and while they had shown flashes of quality, consistency was not their strong point. bolzano, meanwhile, had won three of their last five and only dropped points in two tight contests.
and here's the thing — we had called for the away win with fifty-nine percent confidence before kick-off. the reasoning was straightforward: bolzano's defensive solidity and ability to grind out results in close games, combined with milan's vulnerability on the counter. the match played out exactly as we expected.
the visitors now extend their unbeaten run to eight games, which matters more than the points total at this stage of the season. milan's heavy defeats in october suggest they need to address something quickly, and this result only adds to the pressure on the home side.
what stands out is not the margin but the manner. bolzano did not travel to make up the numbers, and milan refused to go away despite being behind. sometimes a match is decided by three or four moments, and this one was.
