Raufoss produced a statement performance to defeat Radaabu 4-0 in the first round of the Norwegian Cup on Thursday evening. The visitors made no mistake against a home side that looked out of their depth from the first whistle. And here's the thing — this wasn't the kind of result Radaabu fans had hoped for after their recent struggles.
Haakon Karlsen opened the scoring in the 16th minute before doubling his tally just five minutes later. By then, Radaabu's defence had barely got going, and Raufoss were already in control. The pace of those two goals effectively killed any chance of a comeback before the half-hour mark.
Yusuf Agyeman added a third in the 39th minute, and the visitors never looked back after the interval. Nikolai Fremstad punished Radaabu from open play in the 47th minute to complete the rout. To be fair, Raufoss had never really been in danger of losing this one.
The statistics tell the full story. Raufoss enjoyed 59 per cent possession and registered eight shots on target compared to just one for the hosts. Radaabu managed only a single corner while Raufoss dominated the set-piece battle with twelve. They certainly had one foot in the next round after this showing.
Radaabu arrive in this competition with questions hanging over them following a 12-12 defeat to Kongsvinger last season and a 5-0 loss to Ham-Kam before that. Raufoss, meanwhile, have been inconsistent — a 2-1 win against Moss earlier this month did not hide a 7-2 hammering by Høegsund or an away defeat to Stabæk. Cup football has its own rules, and this was Raufoss's night.
The four-goal margin leaves Raufoss well placed to progress, while Radaabu face a long summer of reflection. One result does not define a season, but this was a performance that spoke volumes about where both sides currently stand.
