Nürnberg defeated Greuther Fürth 4:2 in the second round of the 2. Bundesliga at Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer. The visitors took control after a frantic opening half and went on to claim three points away from home.
Fürth started brighter. Felix Klaus opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute before his second effort was ruled offside by VAR. He got his goal in the 41st minute, and then Nürnberg hit back. Julian Justvan struck twice before the break, and added a third in the 54th minute to put the game beyond doubt.
And here's the thing — Fürth kept pushing. Klaus missed a penalty in the 63rd minute, and P. Scobel pulled one back for Nürnberg in the 74th to make it 4:2. The visitors then brought on both Justvan and Scobel in the 88th minute, and the match ran on until the final whistle.
For the record, Nürnberg had 56 per cent possession and registered nine shots on target against six for the hosts. Greuther Fürth produced a higher expected goals total of 2.75 compared with 1.48, yet the visitors were more clinical, converting their chances while the hosts had four big chances go begging.
The result leaves Nürnberg second on 10 points after four games, while Fürth sit 12th with four points. The visitors remain unbeaten, and this was their fourth straight win across all competitions when you include the midweek fixture against Oviedo.
