Five goals from the hosts in Zurich
Zürich Lions saw off Schwenningen 5:2 in a club friendly match on Wednesday evening. The home side took control early and never looked back. By then the visitors had found themselves chasing the game.
The Lions carried the side through their recent patch of inconsistency. They had bounced back from a 0:2 defeat to Lugano with a 9:0 thrashing of GCK Lions before dropping points against Davos twice. Schwenningen arrived with momentum, having beaten Köln three times in succession and topped Hur 6:1.
Five goals in one half is a lot of chances gone begging for the opposition. The visitors punished them from a corner, but the margin told the real story. To be fair, Schwenningen showed character to get one back before the final whistle, though it was never enough.
The result extends Zürich's winning streak in friendlies while halting Schwenningen's recent run of form. Both sides were testing combinations ahead of the competitive season.
