Tretiak Warns Ovechkin About Duma Career Pressures
Vladislav Tretiak said parliamentary work brings heavy criticism and stress, adding Ovechkin alone must decide his post-career path, including a possible federation role.
Vladislav Tretiak, president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and a State Duma deputy, has warned Alexander Ovechkin that a seat in parliament would bring pressures the Washington Capitals forward may not welcome.
Ovechkin, 40, signed a new one-year contract with Washington on 2 July. Tretiak said the decision belongs to Ovechkin alone.
He added he would welcome the forward into the federation
The remarks follow a journalist’s claim that Ovechkin could one day become president of Russia, a suggestion Tretiak did not address directly but which sets the question he was asked.
