Luc Tardif Inducted into IIHF Hall of Fame

The outgoing IIHF president, who steps down in October 2026, was honoured for over three decades of work growing hockey worldwide.

Luc Tardif will be inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame, the federation has announced.

Tardif has led the International Ice Hockey Federation since 2021. In March 2026 he said he would step down from the post in October 2026, and that announcement prompted the IIHF Historical Committee to hold a special meeting to consider his induction this year. The federation had originally planned to induct seven new members in 2026; Tardif's case was added at the last moment.

The IIHF statement described his record this way: "From fighting for an independent ice hockey federation in France to growing the game internationally, Luc Tardif has spent more than three decades working to make hockey stronger, more accessible and more popular around the world. In May 2026 his contribution was recognised with his induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame. Tardif was reluctant to accept such recognition while serving as IIHF president. But faced with a unanimous decision from the Historical Committee, he accepted the honour with humility and pride."
