Connor McDavid says he has no problem with players elsewhere in the NHL now out-earning him, calling the league's rising pay scale a good thing for the men drawing it.
The Edmonton captain still carries a $12.5m cap hit on his current deal, but by the 2027/28 season at least 10 NHL players will out-earn him on average annual value. The new benchmark belongs to Colorado's Cale Makar, whose eight-year extension signed this week carries a record $20.4m cap hit. San Jose's Macklin Celebrini ($18.8m) and Anaheim's Leo Carlsson ($18m) round out the top three, both deals also struck this off-season.
He suggested club owners and executives may see things differently, but said the trend marks a genuine change worth watching.
