Tretiak thanks Ovechkin for taking part in United Russia video
Russian Ice Hockey Federation president Vladislav Tretiak praised Alexander Ovechkin's support and wished him good health to break the NHL scoring record soon.
Vladislav Tretiak, president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, has thanked Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin for taking part in a pre-election video for the United Russia party. Sports.ru carried his words, and Lenta.ru repeated them.
"As for the support from Ovechkin, Alexander is a good man, he always backs sport and the direction we are going in. He has my great respect," Tretiak said.
He also wished the player well in his chase of the NHL scoring record. "I wish him as much health as possible, so that he breaks the record soon," Tretiak said.
Tretiak, 74, was re-elected to the State Duma. He took 45.35% of the vote in Moscow's Preobrazhensky single-mandate constituency, No. 204.
If Ovechkin's appearance in the video draws further comment, it may now be discussed alongside his standing in the NHL record chase.
