John Klingberg Retires After 12 NHL Seasons
The 34-year-old defenceman, mainly known for his years with Dallas, hangs up his skates after closing his career with the San Jose Sharks.
John Klingberg has retired at 34, ending a 12-year NHL career that began in Dallas and concluded in San Jose.
The Swedish defenceman finished last season with 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) in 56 games for the Sharks, a minus-13 rating. Dallas took him in the fifth round, 131st overall, at the 2010 draft.
Klingberg spent 8 of his 12 NHL seasons with the Stars, playing 552 games for the club. He sits third among defencemen in franchise history — Dallas and, before the move, Minnesota North Stars — for assists (303) and points (374), and shares fourth place for goals (71).
In 700 regular-season games for Dallas, Anaheim, Minnesota, Toronto, Edmonton Oil Kings and San Jose, he collected 443 points (92 goals, 351 assists). He added 43 points (9+34) in 82 Stanley Cup play-off games.
With Sweden he won two world titles, in 2017 and 2018.
