Sibir Beat Amur for First KHL Win of the Season
Tyutnev and Popov scored as Sibir Novosibirsk downed Amur Khabarovsk 2:0, with Evgeni Kuznetsov assisting and Mikhail Berdin making 25 saves for the shutout.
Sibir Novosibirsk collected their first win of the KHL season on 10 September, beating Amur Khabarovsk 2:0 on home ice.
Pavel Tyutnev opened the scoring in the 49th minute, set up by defenceman Nikita Smirnov, and Sergei Popov added the second in the 60th minute. Evgeni Kuznetsov, who won the Stanley Cup in 2018, supplied the assist on that second goal. Goaltender Mikhail Berdin kept a clean sheet, turning away 25 shots.
It was Sibir's first home fixture of the campaign, and Smirnov's KHL debut for the club fell on his own birthday.
Sibir had opened the season with two defeats, losing 3:4 to Ak Bars on a shootout and 1:7 to Barys. Amur's loss was their third in a row.
Sibir host Avtomobilist on 13 September, while Amur travel to face Barys on 12 September.
