Tretiak: Russia Fighting CAS Appeal Over IIHF Ban
The Russian hockey federation president says the team has missed international play for four years and vows to keep fighting for reinstatement ahead of the October CAS hearing.
Vladislav Tretiak, president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, says the federation's appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport is a fight for a just cause, with a hearing due at the end of October.
The appeal challenges the IIHF's decision to keep Russian national sides out of international tournaments.
"We are, of course, hoping for success. We are fighting for a just cause. Why? Because we are members of the International Ice Hockey Federation. Russia remains a powerhouse in world hockey. But our national team is being ignored — we have not played in international competitions for four years, and we are now going into a fifth. This is, of course, a major setback for us, so we are fighting for our rights. It is very difficult, there are certain obstacles, but we are still not giving up, and we will fight to the end," Tretiak said.
