Ak Bars, playing at home, went ahead through Semyon Terekhov and Artyom Galimov, with Mitch Miller and Kirill Semyonov setting up both goals for two assists apiece. Ruslan Iskhakov pulled one back for the visitors with a shorthanded strike, and Dmitri Silantyev forced the shootout with his leveller deep into the third period. Iskhakov then scored the winning penalty.
Ak Bars stay top of the Eastern Conference on 7 points. Metallurg move up to second with 6. Metallurg host Avangard on September 13, while Ak Bars travel to face Torpedo a day later — the same club they have agreed a preliminary deal with to sign forward Yegor Sokolov.
In Moscow, Spartak beat SKA 3-1 at Megasport on September 10. Scott Wilson put the visitors ahead in the first period, but Spartak turned it around in the third: Alexander Belyaev levelled, Mikhail Maltsev put the hosts in front, and Yegor Filin added a third in the closing seconds.
The win was Spartak's second in a row after their opening-night defeat to Torpedo, following the comeback victory over CSKA in which Max Comtois scored the winner.
