Rotenberg: Ovechkin Can Still Outplay Younger Rivals
Russia 25 coach Roman Rotenberg says Alexander Ovechkin, who turns 41 on 17 September, could reach 1,000 NHL goals and outperform younger players this season.
Roman Rotenberg says he expects Alexander Ovechkin to keep playing at a level above many younger players in the NHL, and puts that down to how the Washington captain trains.
Ovechkin turns 41 on 17 September. Rotenberg, first vice-president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and head coach of the Russia 25 national team, was asked directly whether Ovechkin is now closing in on 1,000 NHL goals.
Washington open the season away to Carolina on 3 October. Ovechkin flew out to the United States on 10 September to begin preparations for what will be his 22nd NHL campaign.
