Spartak scored three goals in the opening two minutes of their home fixture against Severstal on Saturday, setting a new KHL record for the fastest start to a match.

No side had previously managed three goals that quickly. The old mark had stood since 2014, when Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod put three past Vityaz inside the first 2 minutes and 23 seconds.

The record was confirmed by the league's press service, cited by Sport24.

The match came a week after the KHL announced its payout schedule for clubs from the 2025/2026 season, worth a combined 2.36 billion roubles. Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, the reigning champions who opened this campaign with a 5:1 win over Traktor, are due the largest share at 215.9 million roubles.
