Alexander Karmanov's Fight Headlines Sharks Rout of Kings
The 216cm Sharks prospect dropped the gloves with Liam Lefevre and got the better of it as San Jose beat Los Angeles 8-1 at the Rookie Faceoff.
Alexander Karmanov, the towering San Jose Sharks defenceman, dropped the gloves with Liam Lefevre in the third period as the Sharks beat the Kings 8-1 at the Rookie Faceoff prospects tournament in San Jose.
The trouble started when Karmanov, 18, ran a heavy check on Kings forward Jakub Dvořák. Lefevre, a 21-year-old Kings prospect, stepped in to defend his team-mate. Karmanov had the better of the exchange.
The size difference told its own story. Karmanov stands 216cm and weighs 123kg; Lefevre gives away 25cm and 31kg at 191cm and 92kg. San Jose took Karmanov, who holds Russian and Moldovan citizenship, with the 201st pick of the 2026 NHL Draft — by all accounts the tallest player ever selected at an NHL draft.
