The 32-year-old Canadian spent last season with the Islanders, where he made 30 regular-season appearances, managed four points (2+2) and finished on minus-10 with 15:27 of ice time a game.
His career numbers tell a different story. Across 441 NHL regular-season games — with Minnesota, Seattle, Vancouver, the Rangers and the Islanders — Soucy has 99 points (32+67), a plus-54 rating and 282 penalty minutes, to go with 681 hits and 532 blocked shots. In 38 Stanley Cup play-off games he has added seven points (2+5). His previous contract carried a cap hit of $3.25 million.
