Ilya Kovalchuk: Russia Will Return to Hockey
Shanghai Dragons president Ilya Kovalchuk says he believes Russia's national hockey team will return internationally after the federation's CAS appeal against the IIHF.
Ilya Kovalchuk said he expects Russia's national teams to return to international hockey, commenting on the federation's appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the IIHF's decision.
"We always have a chance. If you don't believe in that, there's no point fighting. Politics has interfered, but I'm sure we'll be back. The Russian Ice Hockey Federation has the example of our gymnasts and swimmers, athletes from other sports who already compete under the flag and anthem. Right now the Russian national hockey team has been admitted to the Universiade. That's already a first step on the road back. Let's hope we return and show the strength of Russian hockey again," said Ilya Kovalchuk.
