Cherkas Weighs In on Ovechkin's Record Pursuit
Ex-SKA coach Sergei Cherkas is watching Kucherov's form for Tampa, Vasilevskiy's play, and waiting for Ovechkin to break the all-time NHL goals record.
Sergei Cherkas, the former SKA head coach, has set out what he wants to watch for in the coming NHL season.
"I'm interested to see how Kucherov can keep up his scoring form for Tampa, confirming his high level. It's interesting how Vasilevskiy will play this season. And, of course, we're waiting for Ovechkin to be able to break the record," Cherkas said.
Ovechkin is the leading goalscorer in NHL regular-season history, with 929. Including the play-offs, he has scored 1,006 goals, second on the league's all-time list behind Wayne Gretzky's 1,016.
