Jori Lehterä Takes Break From Career
The 38-year-old forward left HIFK after four seasons, saying he's considering retirement but hasn't made a final decision on his hockey future.
Jori Lehterä has decided to take a break from his career. HIFK, the club he started this season with, had already announced his departure from hockey; the 38-year-old forward himself was less definitive about what comes next.
Lehterä said.
Lehterä had opened his fourth season with the Helsinki club and made four appearances in the 2026/27 Finnish championship, recording one point (0+1). He joined HIFK in 2023 after winning the Finnish title and the Champions Hockey League with Tappara that same year.
In the KHL he played 315 regular-season matches for Lokomotiv, Sibir, SKA and Spartak, putting up 266 points (89+177), and added 15 points (1+14) in 40 Gagarin Cup games. In the NHL he featured for St. Louis and Philadelphia, with 111 points (34+77) in 307 regular-season games and 17 points (4+13) in 39 Stanley Cup playoff appearances. With Finland's national team he took Olympic bronze in 2014 and world championship silver the same year.
