Kevin Hayes retires from hockey after five games for Ak Bars
Ex-NHL forward Kevin Hayes ended his career after five KHL games for Ak Bars without a point, saying his body no longer lets him play at his level.
Kevin Hayes has retired from hockey after five games for Ak Bars in the KHL. The forward, who joined the club this off-season on a one-year contract worth 80m roubles, did not register a point.
"Today I made the decision to end my career as a hockey player. I can no longer play at the level I would like to, my body does not allow it. I thank my career that I was able to come to Russia. I am grateful to the club for the chance, and I regret that things did not turn out the way everyone expected. I saw and understood that I could not help the team. I am glad I was lucky enough to visit Kazan. Miller took me around restaurants and showed me some very tasty cuisine. I would very much like my family to visit Russia too, it is a wonderful country," Hayes said.
Hayes spent 12 seasons in the NHL with Pittsburgh, the Rangers, Winnipeg, Philadelphia and St Louis. He played 805 regular-season games and 56 in the play-offs, scoring 472 points (193+279) in total.
