Semyon Varlamov played his first game since November 2024, relieving Ilya Sorokin down 0:3 and stopping all 10 shots he faced as the Islanders rallied to beat the Rangers 4:3.
The 38-year-old Russian had undergone two partial knee-replacement operations. He took over from Ilya Sorokin, who had conceded three goals on nine shots, with the Islanders trailing 0:3 in the second period.
Varlamov stopped all 10 shots he faced across 30:15 on the ice and was credited with the win.
His current contract, worth an average of $2.75m a year, runs through the end of the 2026/27 season.
