Bear attack in Tuva kills father of NHL player Andrei Kuzmenko
Veteran coach Kuzmenko, who trained KHL players and his NHL son, died in hospital after a bear attacked a tourist group camping in Tuva's taiga.
Kuzmenko spent many years training professional players. Izvestia names KHL players Nikita Korostelev and Daniil Grigoriev among his pupils, along with Alexander Pelevin of the VHL. His son Andrei, who plays in the NHL for the Penguins, was also coached by him.
Artysh Salchak, head of Tuva's regional hunting inspectorate, said a tourist from Moscow had died in hospital after a bear attack in the Todzhinsky district. The attack happened on 22 September. According to Salchak, a group of 7 tourists travelled up the Yenisei by boat and camped in remote taiga, although a ban on entering the forests was in force.
