Waddell: No Plans to Trade Marchenko for Picks
Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell says he won't trade Kirill Marchenko for draft picks or prospects, downplaying trade rumors around the winger.
Don Waddell says he has no intention of trading Kirill Marchenko for draft picks and prospects, and adds that other clubs are the ones making the calls.
"I don't call other teams, they call me... I can't trade him for draft picks and prospects. At this stage that makes no sense for our franchise," Waddell said on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio.
He becomes a restricted free agent once it expires. Last season he played 76 games for Columbus and finished with 67 points, 27 goals and 40 assists.
Waddell's comments come as trade speculation around Marchenko has circulated, with interest apparently coming from elsewhere rather than from Columbus itself. If the Blue Jackets hold their line, Marchenko's next contract, rather than a trade, looks the more likely route to resolving his future in Columbus.
