Dementyev: Kucherov deserves a $20 million contract
Hockey agent Alexey Dementyev says Nikita Kucherov, 33, deserves $20 million a year and is undeservedly overshadowed by McDavid, MacKinnon and others.
Alexey Dementyev, a hockey agent and pundit, says Nikita Kucherov has earned a contract worth $20 million a year. Asked whether the Tampa forward deserves that figure, Dementyev told a Russian sports outlet: "There is no doubt. I have huge respect for this player. He is undeservedly in the shadow of others."
Kucherov is 33. His current deal with Tampa averages $9.5 million a year and runs to 30 June 2027.
Dementyev was then asked whether he meant Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and the others. "Even our own players," he said. "If someone assembles a world team in his head and Kucherov is not in it, that is a catastrophe."
If Tampa were to meet that figure, the average annual salary would more than double.
