Sportico has published its annual NHL franchise valuations. Toronto tops the list at $4.8bn, up 13% on the year. The Rangers sit second on $4.15bn (+14%), with Montreal third on $3.8bn (+15%).
Sportico builds the figures from club revenue, drawing on public data, financial filings and conversations with people familiar with each team's finances, then applies team-specific multipliers based on sales history, market characteristics, brand strength and results on the ice, past and present.
The biggest movers were smaller markets. The Islanders climbed from 14th to 10th on a 40% jump to $2.7bn, and New Jersey rose from 11th to 9th at $2.72bn, up 32%. Calgary gained five places to 14th ($2.24bn, +23%), while Pittsburgh recorded the smallest rise in the league, up just 3% to $1.75bn, and dropped from 23rd to 26th.
Elsewhere among the sides most followed by this desk: Washington sit 11th at $2.67bn (+16%), Tampa Bay are 16th on $2.2bn (+16%), and Florida rank 19th at $2.15bn (+14%). Columbus close out the table in 32nd on $1.5bn, though even the lowest-ranked side gained 15% year-on-year.
