Yevgeni Ryasensky Barred From Leaving Russia Over Debt
The 2012 world champion, who sold his gold medal and championship rings to pay off business debts, faces a fresh travel ban over 3.27 million roubles owed.
Yevgeni Ryasensky, world champion with Russia in 2012, has been barred from leaving the country over a debt of 3.27 million roubles, the Telegram channel "Mash na sporte" reported, cited by RIA Novosti.
The former defenceman ran up debts of more than 20 million roubles after his playing career ended. He went into business in Kazan, organising holidays, while his wife set up a company importing Italian fabrics. Both ventures failed despite fresh loans taken out to keep them afloat, and both were eventually closed.
To pay off what he owed, Ryasensky sold his 2012 world championship gold medal for 6 million roubles and the matching championship ring from the same tournament for 3.5 million. He also sold his Ak Bars ring for winning the 2007 European Champions Cup.
The outstanding balance with the state now stands at 3.27 million roubles, and Ryasensky cannot leave Russia until it is cleared. This is not the first such restriction: bailiffs in Tatarstan barred him from travel in December 2013 over a tax debt of 12,000 roubles, which was settled and lifted at the time.
Ryasensky, an honoured master of sport of Russia, played for CSKA, SKA, Ak Bars, Neftekhimik, Traktor and Krylya Sovetov during his career.
