About the player
Chen Wei has never worn another club's shirt. He joined Shanghai SIPG's academy in 2009 and worked through the ranks until his promotion to the first team in 2017.
His clearest individual mark came away from the club, at the 2019 Maurice Revello Tournament in Toulon, where he was named Best Goalkeeper while playing for China's under-23 side. That form fed into a senior call-up for the 2019 Olympic qualifiers, though a place in the squad did not translate into an actual appearance for the senior national team. More recently, his form in the Chinese Super League was recognised again when he was named the competition's Best Goalkeeper for May 2025.
Chen stands at 188 cm and plays right-footed, attributes that have underpinned a goalkeeping career built almost entirely within one footballing environment.
