About the player
Diego Kochen is a goalkeeper who grew up in the United States before joining Barcelona's La Masia academy in 2019, having previously come through Weston FC, West Pines United, Marcet Football Academy and TecnoFutbol CF. He signed his first professional contract with the club in March 2022 and extended it until 2028 in February 2024.
Kochen made his competitive debut for FC Barcelona Atlètic on 14 April 2024 against Unionistas de Salamanca and went on to make 37 league appearances for the reserve side. He was part of the Barcelona squad that won the UEFA Youth League in the 2024–25 season. Despite being named among the substitutes for the first team, he has not made a competitive appearance for Barcelona in La Liga, the Copa del Rey or the Champions League.
His performances at youth level earned recognition beyond the club: The Guardian included him on its Next Generation list of best players born in 2006 in 2023, and he was a nominee for U.S. Soccer's Young Male Player of the Year in 2022. He was called up to the senior United States squad in September 2024 and remains in contention for the 2026 World Cup, though he has not yet made his senior international debut.
On 3 July 2026, Kochen joined Danish Superliga side Lyngby Boldklub on a season-long loan, with the Danish club holding an option to buy for €1.5 million and Barcelona retaining a 40% sell-on clause. He made his competitive debut for Lyngby on 26 July 2026, starting in a 3–2 defeat to FC Copenhagen in which he made three saves.
