About the player
Giovani Bamba's route to Puerto Cabello has taken him across two continents. Born in Fribourg to Angolan roots, the midfielder came through the Swiss game with Fribourg-AFF's youth setup before senior spells at FC Richemond and FC Bulle, then Sion's reserve side. A loan at Wohlen and a free move to Stade Nyonnais followed, but it was at Stade Lausanne Ouchy, from 2020 to 2024, that he built his career: 119 league appearances and a promotion to the Swiss Super League.
He then left Switzerland altogether, signing for F.C. Vizela in June 2025 on a two-year deal. From there he was loaned out again, joining Puerto Cabello in February 2026 for the remainder of the season, and has made four league appearances for the club so far.
On the international front, Bamba came through Switzerland's youth ranks at U19 and U21 level, but when the senior call came, it was Angola that called him up, for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification, through his family's descent. He has not yet added a senior cap for either country.
