About the player
Gökdeniz Gürpüz grew up in the Ruhr region and passed through two of German football's biggest academies before he had even played a senior match. After his early years at Sportfreunde Hamborn 07, he joined Schalke 04's youth setup and then moved on to Borussia Dortmund, where he spent seven years developing as a midfielder.
That switch to Turkish football, in 2023, ended his long stay in German academies: Galatasaray brought him in for a fee, and just over five months later he was handed his senior debut in a Turkish Cup tie against Bandırmaspor. His international story took a similar turn. Gürpüz had already represented Germany at under-16 level before changing allegiance to Turkey, for whom he went on to play at under-17, under-18 and under-19 level, scoring at each stage.
His time at Galatasaray ran its course when his contract expired, and he then returned to Germany, joining 1. FC Saarbrücken on a free transfer. It is there that he now continues his career.
