Jordi Altena came through Vitesse's academy after starting out at VV Sleeuwijk and passing through FC Dordrecht as a boy, and by 2023 the club had promoted him to the first team, where he made two Eredivisie appearances. The following season took him away from Arnhem on a move to De Treffers in the Tweede Divisie, where regular football suited him: 27 appearances brought three goals and eight assists.

RKC Waalwijk took him into the Eerste Divisie in 2025, and he again played regularly, adding 21 appearances, two goals and four assists before the club extended his contract to 2028. That form carried him to Scotland in January 2026, when Heart of Midlothian signed him to a deal running to May 2029. Hearts did not disclose the transfer fee, though reports in the Scottish press put the value above £500,000.

He needed no time to settle. On his debut for Hearts, Altena supplied the assist for the winning goal against Livingston. He has yet to add international recognition for the Netherlands at senior level, though he was named Vitesse's Youth Talent of the Month in February 2020.
