About the player
Jardell Kanga made his senior debut at 15, when Brommapojkarna handed him a first-team appearance in Sweden's second tier.
The performances carried him to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2022, initially into the German club's under-19 setup. He never made a first-team appearance there, and in September that year the Guardian's Next Generation list marked him as one to watch. A loan to De Graafschap in early 2024 brought a single Eerste Divisie appearance, and a return to Sweden with Hammarby the same year did not change the pattern — Kanga has said he was not given a chance in the squad. Hammarby loaned him to its feeder club, Hammarby Talang FF, where he scored twice in ten matches.
The move to Ilves in April 2025, initially on loan, changed his trajectory. He scored three league goals that season, including a penalty that settled a 2-0 win over Gnistan, and added a goal in the Finnish Cup along with two Europa League appearances.
At youth international level, Kanga played at the 2022 European Championship for the under-17s. He has since featured for the under-19s and under-21s but has not been capped by the senior national team.
