About the player
Joris van Overeem's move to Israel came as a free transfer, but it turned out to be the most productive spell of his career. Since arriving at Maccabi Tel Aviv in June 2022, the midfielder has collected the Israeli Premier League title in 2023–24 and again in 2024–25, along with the Israel State Cup in the latter season. In May 2024 he also produced one of his most memorable individual displays, returning from a knee injury to string together 90 consecutive accurate passes against Hapoel Haifa.
He came through the youth ranks at AZ Alkmaar, making his senior debut in October 2013 with a goal in the 88th minute of a 7–0 KNVB Cup rout of Achilles '29. A stint with Jong AZ followed before he settled into Alkmaar's first team. In July 2018 he moved to FC Utrecht for €700,000, where he became a regular over four seasons, making 103 league appearances and scoring five goals.
Van Overeem also represented the Netherlands at youth level, winning the 2011 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, though he has not gone on to earn caps for the senior side.
