Luis Gabriel Rey

Luis Gabriel Rey came through the youth ranks at Atlético Morelia before Mazatlán FC picked him up, and it was there, in January 2021, that he made his senior debut in Liga MX. A single appearance was all it brought at the time, and the path forward ran through the lower divisions rather than a straight line up. At Mineros de Fresnillo, in the Liga Premier, he played as a centre-back, finding the net twice in nine matches.

The move to C.D. Tapatío, Guadalajara's affiliate side, proved the more significant step. Across 25 appearances in the Liga de Expansión MX he scored four times from the back and was part of the squad that won the Apertura 2024 title. He made his Liga MX debut against Pachuca in October 2024. Eighteen appearances followed for the Chivas, with a league goal added to his tally alongside strikes in continental competition.

Rey was loaned out to Club Puebla for the 2025/2026 season, wearing the number 3 shirt. The loan has given him regular football: 26 appearances and two goals for Puebla. He is expected to return to Guadalajara once the loan ends.

The move up the pyramid was matched by international recognition. Rey was named in Mexico's preliminary squad for the 2026 World Cup and went on to win his first senior cap, though he had never previously featured for any of the country's youth national teams.
