About the player
Maxime Ndong-Penda's path to Hoffenheim ran through both halves of the Ruhr. Born in Bochum, the centre-back started out at SC Weitmar 45 before Borussia Dortmund brought him into their academy, and he later moved across to Schalke 04, where he captained the U17 side, making 28 appearances and scoring three goals for the U17s and reaching the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal der Junioren with the U19s in the 2023/24 season.
In July 2024 he left Schalke on a free transfer for Hoffenheim, joining on a development contract before turning professional once he turned 18. He won the German U19 Championship with Hoffenheim's youth side in the 2024/25 season. Standing at 192cm, he now plays as a centre-back for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II, wearing the number 44 shirt.
Ndong-Penda holds dual German and Cameroonian citizenship. He has represented Germany at underage regional level for Westfalen at U15 and U16, before being called up to the U17 national team, though he has yet to earn a senior cap.
