Philip Porwei Otele

Otele began his senior career in England with Wolviston FC while studying at Teesside University, having turned down a youth offer from Arsenal. From there he moved to Lithuania to join Kauno Žalgiris, before a free transfer took him to UTA Arad in Romania.

His breakthrough season came at CFR Cluj, where he finished as Liga I's top scorer with 18 goals, level with Florinel Coman, and was named in the league's Team of the Season as Cluj finished runners-up to champions FCSB. That form earned him a move to Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates for a fee of €3.5 million.

In January 2025, Otele joined FC Basel on loan with an option to buy, scoring 9 goals in 18 league appearances during his half-season there. Basel exercised the purchase option in the summer for around €3.3 million, and with the club he won both the Swiss Super League and the Swiss Cup. In February 2026, he was loaned out again, this time to Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga for the rest of the season, where he made 9 appearances and scored once; Hamburg opted not to trigger their buy option, valued between €4.5 and 5 million.

Otele has also broken into the Nigeria national team, earning his first caps in 2026.
