Robert Wagner

Robert Wagner is a product of SC Freiburg's academy, having come through the club's youth system with a spell at SC Lahr in between before returning to Freiburg for good in 2017. He worked his way up to SC Freiburg II, where he made 48 appearances in the 3. Liga and scored four goals, form that earned him the Fritz-Walter-Medaille in Bronze in 2022 at U19 level. He was capped repeatedly for Germany's youth sides, collecting eight appearances for the U19s, eleven for the U20s and three for the U21s.

A first-team squad number at Freiburg never translated into a regular role — he made four Bundesliga appearances for the club without scoring — and his development instead came through a string of loans. At SpVgg Greuther Fürth he played 31 times in the 2. Bundesliga and scored four goals. A move to FC St. Pauli followed, where he made 12 Bundesliga appearances and two in the DFB-Pokal, but his time at the club was disrupted by a thigh muscle injury sustained in November 2024 that kept him out for five months.

Further loans took him to Holstein Kiel, where he featured 14 times in the 2. Bundesliga, and then to SG Dynamo Dresden. That last spell proved decisive: Wagner made 15 appearances on loan before Dresden made the move permanent, signing him from Freiburg for a fee of €850,000. Wagner has no senior caps for Germany.
