Samuel Bone

Bone's route to Shelbourne ran through the lower half of England's pyramid before he ever established himself in the League of Ireland. He moved to England at the age of five and grew up in Maidstone, joining Charlton Athletic's youth academy in 2013. He signed a professional contract there in 2014, but the club released him two years later. Shortly after leaving Charlton, in 2016, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, a health episode that interrupted the start of his career before he had the chance to make a senior appearance in England.

He rebuilt his career in Ireland, joining Shamrock Rovers as a free agent in February 2017 and making 41 league appearances there. Loan and permanent spells at Waterford followed, then a move to St Patrick's Athletic in January 2021, where he won the FAI Cup. A year at Dundalk came next before he returned to England in January 2023, signing for Maidstone United — the town where he grew up — and making 54 appearances across the National League and National League South.

Bone joined Shelbourne on a free transfer in July 2024 and won the League of Ireland Premier Division that year. He has continued as a regular for the club since, with 31 league appearances and two goals to his name there. Though uncapped at senior international level, he is eligible to represent Malaysia.
