About the player
Saku Savolainen is a KuPS academy product through and through: he made his Veikkausliiga debut for the club in May 2013 and has spent almost his entire senior career there, interrupted only by a brief loan to third-tier KuFu-98 in 2014, where he made three appearances. He has repeatedly signed on for more, most recently extending his contract in November 2024 through to 2026, and has worn the number 6 shirt for KuPS across the 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025 seasons.
The trophy haul that has come with that loyalty is substantial. Savolainen has won the Veikkausliiga title with KuPS in 2019, 2024 and 2025, and added the Finnish Cup in 2021, 2022 and 2024. He was a candidate for Finland's senior squad in 2017 but withdrew through injury, and a senior cap has not followed since. His international experience instead runs through the youth ranks: two caps and a goal at U17 level, 14 caps and a goal at U18, nine caps and a goal at U19, and six caps with two goals at U21, all gathered between 2013 and 2017.
He is right-footed and stands 183 cm tall.
