About the player
Zakaria El Ouahdi's breakthrough came at RWD Molenbeek, where he scored seven goals in a single Challenger Pro League season. In 2022–23 he did just that, and picked up both a place in the Challenger Pro League Best XI and the club's Player of the Season award.
In 2024–25 he scored six times in the league as Genk won the Belgian Pro League title, then added two more in the Belgian Cup. The season brought individual recognition too : the Belgian Lion Award in 2025, followed by the Ebony Shoe in 2026 as the league's best player of African descent.
His route to senior international football went through Morocco's U23 side, where he was capped 20 times and scored three goals between 2023 and 2024. That spell included winning the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, a place in the tournament's Team of the Tournament, and a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. He made his senior debut for Morocco in June 2025, in a friendly win over Benin.
