The ground the club calls home in Hail, Prince Abdul Aziz bin Musa'ed Sports City Stadium, holds 12,250 and belongs to more than one tenant: Al-Tai FC plays there too.

Al Jabalain grew out of a 1959 merger of neighbourhood sides, Al-Nasr Hawari among them, and took a name that means "the two mountains," a nod to the terrain around Hail rather than anything on the pitch. The brown and white kit gave the club its own name in turn: Al-Bunni, "the brown one."

The high point came in the 1979–80 season, when the club topped the Saudi First Division and went up to the Premier League. Three separate spells in the top flight followed over the years, none of them lasting, and the last one closed with relegation in 1984–85. A runners-up finish in the First Division came a few years later, and further second-place results have piled up at Second Division level since, most recently in 2017–18. Lower down the pyramid, the club has fared better outright, taking the Third Division title in 2014–15.

Al-Tai remains the fixture that matters most, the Hail Derby carrying a weight the league table alone would not explain.

Among those who have wound up at the club, Léo Lacroix stands out: a Swiss international defender turning out for a side outside the Saudi top flight is not the usual traffic, and his time there gave Al Jabalain a name that travelled further than the results did.
