The ground sits in the Al-Matar district of Hail, out by King Khalid Hospital, and it carries the name of the man who governed the province — Prince Abdulaziz bin Musaed. The name has stayed put since the gates first opened under King Khalid.

What changed was the shape of the place. In June 2021 the ground went through a round of work that says a good deal about how football is watched now rather than played: the grass was cultivated again, the changing rooms renewed, and two rooms built that had no equivalent when the stadium opened — a media centre and a video operation room for VAR. The following year an expansion added 6,300 seats. A ground built for one era of the local game was fitted out for another.

It belongs to the Ministry of Sport and it has never been a single club's ground. Al-Jabalain have used it since 1981, and Al-Tai alongside them, until relegation to the First Division in 2024 took them down a level. The King Cup has brought the bigger nights, among them a Round of 16 tie with Al-Ittihad.

The wider sports city holds a second pitch, covered, laid with artificial turf; the stadium itself keeps natural grass. On 21 September 2019 the pitch was given over to a Saudi National Day concert, with Al-Mohandes and Dalia Mubarak on the bill.
