AS Jeunesse Esch

Esch-sur-Alzette sits in Luxembourg's south-west. When a group of young men formed a football club there on 13 August 1907, they called it Jeunesse la Frontière d'Esch. The name was shortened in 1918: Stade de la Frontière, known locally as Op der Grenz, holds 4,000, of which 1,200 are seated.

The occupying German administration renamed the club SV Schwarz-Weiß 07 Esch during the Second World War.

What separates Jeunesse from the rest of Luxembourgish football is a run rather than a single season. Between 1972 and 1977 the club took five titles in six years, and added the domestic cup in 1973, 1974 and 1976. The pattern repeated two decades later: champions in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999, five in a row, with cups in 1997 and 1999 alongside. The 28th league title came in 2010; the most recent trophy of any kind is the cup won in 2013.

The earliest of the honours is a long way back. Jeunesse were champions in 1920-21, less than fourteen years after the club was founded, and would not win the league again until 1937 — the same season they took their second Luxembourg Cup, having won the first in 1935.

The club has no recorded official nickname. The black and white stripes have done that job instead, well enough that supporters' writing about the club leans on the colours rather than any name.
